| Almost half of the 300 2005 Summer Singles League participants elected to play in the season ending tournament.
Most of the draws had at least 16, with a few going up to almost 32. The first day of tournament play began bright and early on a beautiful
Saturday morning, September 25 at 8:00 AM. The 3.5 men (with 29 players they had the largest draw) started things out without a single
three setter (much to the delight of tournament director Bob Walgren). Play continued throughout Saturday accompanied by delicious Tri-tip
and Chicken dished up by our very own Nat Bitton. Sunday started just as early (with equally beautiful weather). Tammy Chan and Don Loefller
manned the grill and the tennis was great. By the end of Sunday all the draws were down to the Semi-finalists and everyone had the week to gear up.
Saturday, October 1st was the big day.

The Men’s 4.0 looked very
similar, with one long semi-final with Rizzo (the 2004 3.5 Champion) defeating
Gee 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 and the other semi going very quickly with Kearney over ONeal
6-2, 6-1. Once again the more rested of the two finalists, the 2004 Champion
Kearney, won the match 6-2, 6-4.
The semi-finals of the Men’s

semi-final match, having to win in a tie-break in the 2nd over
Peterson 6-3, 7-6 (3). Judson pulled out an upset win over the number 2 seed
Slover 6-4, 6-2 and then really got the crowd going, taking Hidayat to three
sets in the finals. Ron pulled it out, defeating Judson 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
